In Scotland, a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) is a property where three or more unrelated people live together as their main home and share facilities such as a kitchen, bathroom, or living space.
An HMO is defined under the Housing (Scotland) Act 2006. A property is generally an HMO if:
– It is occupied by 3 or more people; and
– The occupants form more than one household (i.e., not a single family)
